Surviving the Dark Night of the Soul

Surviving the Dark Night of the Soul

This is our last show for January 2019 and we are shutting it down with an intense topic, surviving the dark night of the soul.

We all fight inner battles. Most of us struggle alone. Today, one of our Dad Edge Alliance team leads opens up about how alcoholism and depression led him to the brink of suicide. He lost his job, his house, his wife, and was bankrupt. He was overweight and unhealthy from the constant booze, cocaine, and cigarettes. But one day, something clicked and he decided to fight his way back to the light.

Listen to his story from hopelessness to the heroic triumph over the battle within.

'It’s a powerful thing, to feel like you belong somewhere.'—Scott Brown, Dad Edge Alliance Team Lead #dads #men #fathers #addiction #mastermind Click To Tweet

A Wife's Thoughts on The Dad Edge Alliance and Summit

A Wife’s Thoughts on The Dad Edge Alliance and Summit

Today is a first. We not only have a longtime Dad Edge Alliance member on Thursday Throwdown, we have his wife! If you have been thinking about joining The Dad Edge Alliance or attending our Dad Edge Summit this summer, but are wondering how your wife will feel about the idea, this interview with Javier and Suzanne will show you what happens when a man finds his tribe.

Javier and Suzanne have been together for 14 years and are parents. They had a fairy tale beginning, but once real life kicked in, intense fights and break ups left open wounds. Javier opens up about his struggles as a man. He tells us how The Dad Edge Alliance helped him grow and how the Dad Edge Summit catalyzed all he had learned into a clear vision for the future.

His wife, Suzanne, gets real about the marriage problems they had and how beneficial The Dad Edge Alliance and Dad Edge Summit have been to their relationship as a couple and a family.

Finding the Strength Through the Struggle

Today we talk to a man who never wanted to be a dad. The thought of fatherhood terrified him. He thought so little of himself, he didn’t think he was worthy to procreate. He thought that when his time was done on Earth, there should be no evidence that he even existed.

This man’s name is Mark Globowsky, and he is the host of the Strength Through the Struggle podcast. His beliefs of unworthiness and inferiority were the result of his upbringing with a physically and emotionally abusive father. But Mark stepped boldly into the dark, confronting his issues head on. He surrounded himself with the right people, men who showed him the truth about himself.

Now Mark has someone to call him ‘daddy’ for the rest of his life. Becoming a father was the best thing that could’ve ever happened to him. He shares how we can mine our pain and our past, finding strength through the struggle to become the man that we decide we want to be.

'Remember in the dark what you know to be true in the light.'—Mark Globowsky #men #dads #fathers #depression #adversity Click To Tweet

Approach Your Wife When You’re in Crisis

How to Approach Your Wife When You’re in Crisis

How should you approach your wife when you’re in crisis? When we men go into crisis, we have a tendency to shut down. We don’t want to appear like we don’t have it all under control. We don’t want our spouses to worry. Some might think that sharing all of our feelings of anxiety, stress, anger, or overwhelm with our spouse is the logical alternative, but this isn’t the answer either. Our wives shouldn’t have to shoulder all our problems.

Today, we have Alliance Member Alex Vanhouten on the show. He is the creator of Defining Dadbod, which aims to create a legacy of health and fitness for our kids. But he wasn’t always an entrepreneur. A few months ago, Alex was a successful employee who was terminated from his job without warning. Alex’s wife is a stay-at-home mom and he didn’t know what to do as the sole support for a single-income household. He tells us what he did before explaining his crisis to his wife to make sure that they both could cope with it in best way possible.

'Why would I go to my wife for validation when she has zero experience being a man?'—Alex Vanhouten @definingdadbod #men #marriage #manhood #brotherhood #tribe Click To Tweet
