The Power of Humor Through Hard Times with Mirthell Onyx

When life gets tough, we tend to take things too seriously. We get discouraged and bitter. We might even lose faith.

In this episode, we get a chance to speak with Mirthell Onyx. He has been an ordained minister and marriage and family therapist for over twenty years. Mirthell is also a dad who writes, directs, produces, and acts in his family’s viral YouTube channel. There they depict how they rose from “the struggle life” to “the Onyx life” as a self-made, millionaire family utilizing social media as their primary entertainment platform.

Also the host of The Onyx Life podcast, Mirthell seeks to inspire and educate families on how to simultaneously build happy homes and financial empires. Today he teaches us how to use the power of humor through hard times and keep the faith to get through anything.

Tell the story. Feed the soul. Make them laugh. Heal the heart.

What You’ll Learn

Mission

[6:34]

Mirthell said that laughter is medicine. He believed that their story is very impactful to feed the soul, make people laugh, and heal the heart. They are constantly telling stories and doing funny skits with life lessons.

[7:08]

He shared that his family puts a spin on their show through laughter that allows some of the things they go through as married couples, or as families. He added that it gives people hope after a storm.

Background

[8:03]

Mirthell was an ordained minister for 17 years. HE started the Youtube Show to connect with people on a real down-to-earth level hoping to make a difference.

Miracles

[10:18]

Mirthell shared that the current COVID situation made his family get closer to each other. He learned to value that special time with his family.

Giving Back

[11:46]

Mirthell discussed doing a lot of quarantine-type skits and entertainment to bring a little bit of light to the situation. They made a collaboration with Dr. Fauci to educate people on the newest things and to understand what is happening around them. The show talked about how to get to the heart of issues,  understand them, laugh at them and move on.

Spiritual Approach

[17:05]

For Mirthell, the greatest spirituality is love. The spiritual ground and the common denomination is loving one another that you can all work on.

[17:33]

He added that we’re on the same spiritual path and how powerful and pure love is. There’s power in our story, and in who we are. Despite what we believe, there is a spirituality in us.

Faith Approach on Your Children

[19:02]

There is something natural and passionate inside of the children that need to come out. Mirthell believes that parents ought to be the guide and children are the experts. Life is going to tell them exactly who they are.

Positive Energy

[22:20]

Mirthell said that you should understand the power of who you are, how you were made. Allow yourself to draw that positive energy to you because you’re important.

Belief

[23:41]

Mirthell believed in the power of words. They are just cautious to make sure that they’re always seeding into their audience’s life the importance of believing, and knowing that this will draw good things to you.

Lessons for Children

[35:42]

Mirthell taught his children that every people group has issues and challenges, to listen to other people’s stories, and to sympathize with others. He added the importance of being compassionate with one another.

YouTube Journey

[39:50]

When Mirthell and his family experienced having nothing, they prayed to God to help them. His wife searched about YouTube and started their show. After a month, they made money.

[41:06]

He realized that you don’t need to grieve over a pandemic, or systematic racism because there’s a far bigger plan than any of the distractions in life.

Acknowledging the Problem

[44:50]

Mirthell believed that ignoring problems can’t solve them. Part of the solution is acknowledging problems and finding a solution.

The Secret Language of Your Woman’s Desire with Karen Brody

How can we get back the amazing sex and emotional connection we had when we first met our wives? Where do we go wrong when it comes to exciting our women and igniting their passion? How can we change the direction of our relationship with our spouse when it seems like everything we do is wrong?

Karen Brody is a man coach and bestselling author of Open Her: Activate 7 Masculine Powers to Arouse Your Woman’s Love & Desire.

Karen goes in-depth about how we, as men, lose our power in marriage, how we kill the attraction our wives have for us, and how we can understand our women better than they understand themselves.

You will have some major epiphanies during this show as Karen Brody reveals the secret language of your woman’s desire. Put this episode on repeat!

You don’t want to rely on your partner to fill a hole in you. When you have a sense of fullness you will be more attractive to her.—Karen Brody

Karen Brody

Karen Brody is a Relationship Coach for Men and a former journalist, who lives in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, with her sweetheart and her cat. Her favorite things to do are Salsa dancing, road trips with no destination, and weekends in nature hiking, reading and writing. Karen’s life purpose is to help awaken a healthy masculinity in men, and to guide men and women to discover each other in a deeply connected, eyes wide open dance of love.

If a man’s going to negotiate a woman well, he has to learn to not take what she feels personally, because it’s always changing.—Karen Brody

  • Most men think the more accommodating they are to their woman, the happier she will be. It is the opposite.

legendary marriage individual

4 Elements of a Legendary Marriage Part 1—The Individual

50% of marriages end in divorce. Out of the half that stay together, 1/3 report being happy, 1/3 are “happy enough” and the other 1/3 are miserable. We actively plan our businesses, goals, and finances, but most of us keep our marriage on auto-pilot and expect it to maintain itself. Communication breaks down, resentment builds, and the love slowly dies.

We are dedicating this month to designing our relationships with our spouses. Lance Salazar from Legendary Couples is back on the show. He has just released The Miracle Morning for Legendary Couples which he coauthored with Hal Elrod. He breaks down the 4 Elements of a Legendary Marriage for us:

  1. The Individual
  2. The Partnership
  3. Becoming Friends
  4. Becoming Lovers

Today, we talk about the first element, which is the individual. In order to be the best partners and parents, we have to work on ourselves first. Two people need to be able to stand on their own before they can love another. As a couple, spouses need to be interdependent, not codependent. Nothing is more attractive than a confident person who knows what they want and need in life. That is why, even though it sounds counterintuitive, the first step is to put the marriage on the shelf and let each person retreat in order to deal with their own baggage. Listen to how Lance and Brandy Salazar did it in this episode!

Becoming a Legendary Couple After the Kids

Most of us say that our marriage is a priority, and usually it starts off well, but then the kids come. Time alone with our spouses becomes rare. Our children’s needs must constantly be met. Life gets hectic and patience runs thin. The happily ever after we imagined can turn into a nightmare.

This is an episode all dads and moms need to hear. Today we have our first couple on The Dad Edge podcast. Lance and Brandy are the creators of Legendary Couples. Their marriage deteriorated after the birth of their two daughters, very nearly ending in divorce. But they took action to save their marriage and now teach other couples how to cultivate that legendary love again.

'People expect marriage to exist. If you want your marriage to be amazing, you have to take those same priority principles from your business and health and you have to create a vision, a real plan.'—Lance Salazar, Legendary Couples… Click To Tweet

Lance and Brandy’s Story

Lance and Brandy Salazar got married thirteen years ago, ready to embark on their happily ever after together. At first, they were able to fit romance into their lives, but when they had kids, it pushed their relationship totally out of their schedule.

Lance and Brandy were on the fast track to divorce. At on point, Brandy was so fed up she couldn’t even stand Lance breathing next to her. This is the story of so many couples. What causes a marriage to end up this way?

In one final extraordinary effort, Lance and Brandy decided to try to make the marriage work. They knew it would take a radical approach, but they learned as they went along. They worked together to completely change their lives and make the relationship between each other and their kids truly legendary.
