Stop Doing That Sh*t Gary John Bishop

Stop Doing That Sh*t with Gary John Bishop

What do you constantly tell yourself you can’t do?

Do you look for all the reasons why you’re not capable of change?

How often do you let yourself off the hook by saying, “Well, that’s just the way I am?”

Today we have Gary John Bishop on the show to talk about his new book, Stop Doing That Sh*t: End Self-Sabotage and Demand Your Life Back. He’s going to tell us why we develop negative conclusions about ourselves and how we seek to validate these false beliefs even though they prevent us from living a full life. Gary reveals how we get caught up in destructive cycles and why positive thinking alone does not work. He also talks about how to deconstruct self-limiting beliefs and live in alignment with a vision that allows us to live passionately as we step into our future selves.

If you’ve listened to our previous shows with Gary John Bishop, you know that this interview will be full of no BS, in-your-face insights that will make you face some hard truths. Brace yourself!

'If you’re a father and you haven't lost your shit with your kids at some point, you’re probably self-medicating too much.' @garyjohnbishop #fatherhood Click To Tweet

Gary John Bishop

Gary John Bishop began his life journey in Glasgow, Scotland. The grit and wit of his early life have contributed to his irreverent, tough-love, in-your-face approach to personal growth and development. Coupled with his world-class training, Gary has created the kind of message that cuts through the crust of people’s lives to root out the deeper issues that consume and anchor them to their self limiting behaviors and beliefs.

Gary’s many years of experience as a Senior Program Director for one of the world’s leading personal development organizations is proof of his professionalism, dedication and commitment to what is possible for all human beings. He authentically doesn’t claim perfection. Like most people his life has been both challenging and at times seemingly overwhelming. He has experienced the same kind of defeat, despair, loss, burden, shame and guilt that we all do at various points in our lives and has used his background, both personal and professional, to unleash a unique and vital message that blasts a hole through the BS of the self help industry. He is unnervingly real, on point and his words make a difference.

As one of the leading Personal Development experts in the world with a reputation that has impacted hundreds of thousands of people, his “urban philosophy” approach represents a new wave of personal empowerment and life mastery that has caused miraculous results for people in the quality and performance of their lives.

We’re waiting for life to inspire us, but you need to populate your life with what inspires you.

Stop Doing That Sh*t: End Self-Sabotage and Demand Your Life Back

Why do you act the way you do? Do you ever feel like you get stuck in destructive cycles that hold you back from living the life you really want? In a dynamic, compelling and aha-filled journey, Stop Doing That Sh*t helps you connect the dots of your “stuff” all the way from your past to the present. You’ll make sense of yourself as you uncover how to interrupt those destructive cycles of yours and make the kind of profound shift needed to get your life on track.

If you can’t save money, if you keep ending up in the same types of toxic relationships, if you feel unloved, don’t fit in, not enough or any one of the myriad of ways that a human being trashes an otherwise good life, this is the book for you.

Written in the same irreverent, in-your-face style that resonated with the hundreds of thousand of fans who read Unfu*k Yourself,Stop Doing that Sh*t skillfully reveals our deepest subconscious machinery, with a real-world approach to powerfully translate our most negative thoughts and behaviors into a vitalizing, sabotage-free future. “Stop indulging yourself with fantasies and dramas and unresolved issues.  Wake the hell up!” Bishop writes.

Look, you might have fu*ked up in the past, so what? Stop Doing That Sh*t reveals how you can break free of those deep-seated patterns to live the life you always knew you wanted but could never quite seem to have. As Bishop says, “The future has arrived. Now what the hell are you going to do about it?”

When you know what your values are, making decisions is easy.

What You’ll Learn

  • The difference between a conclusion and a belief
  • Why you can change beliefs, but not conclusions
  • Why we try to validate negative conclusions and seek proof that they are true. E.g. if you try to find evidence that you’re not loved, you’ll find it.
  • How labeling yourself limits you
  • Why you need to tell yourself you’re full of sh*t
  • How human beings are hardwired to get better, and how to leverage that to grow
  • Why the future leaves us with a yawning gap in life—once we get there, we want to get to the next “there”
  • How to have a future in mind that impacts you today
  • Why aspiring to become something is better than setting a goal
  • How to be inspired by what’s to come, allowing the future to fill the present
  • How to create your own game and stop letting life happen to you
  • How to deal with the major pitfalls life throws at you while staying true to your commitments
  • How fathers can create a parenting vision
  • How men mostly live their lives as some reflection of how they feel, influenced by circumstances, moods, and feelings
  • How to operate on something other than your temporary emotional state
  • How to use your vision to check in and make sure your behavior is in alignment with your future
  • Why positive thinking doesn’t work
  • How to pivot your thoughts and redirect your brain when you slip into a negative cycle
  • Gary John Bishop’s amazing upcoming projects!

Personal Development Event for Dads

The Ultimate Personal Development Event for Dads

Today I’m joined by my two facilitators for The Dad Edge Summit live event, Jason MacKenzie and Jeff Bouwman. We recorded this episode live in The Dad Edge Mastermind community. The men online were not only able to listen but also interact with us on the podcast.

There are five dimensions of manhood. They are health (mental, physical, emotional, spiritual), work, our relationship with our spouse, our relationship with our children, and finances. In this live Q&A, we go through how we approached each dimension of manhood in last year’s Dad Edge Summit and how we will approach them in this year’s summit using techniques like appreciative inquiry, group exercises, and visualization.

At most personal development events, we are part of an audience. We sit and listen to speakers, but The Dad Edge Summit is different. It’s active, not passive. The intimate setting allows for deep self-exploration and fosters breakthroughs that change the lives of the participants. Listen to why The Dad Edge Summit is the ultimate personal development event for dads!

Are you ready to create a future beyond imagining? Join us at the ultimate personal development event for dads June 2019 in St. Louis! #dads #men #fathers #stlouis #stl #events #personaldevelopment Click To Tweet

Jason MacKenzie and Jeff Bouwman

Jason MacKenzie is the author of The Dadly Book of Open: How Cultivating Vulnerability Makes You a Stronger, Wiser and More Courageous Father. Jeff Bouwman is the author of Your Income, Your Life, which helps parents understand what their relationship with money looks like today, and define what it could be going forward.

The two of them partnered up to create Adaptive Growth Systems, a full service training agency that specializes in bringing teams, organizations, and communities together to achieve the goals that matter most.

What You’ll Learn

  • Why the traditional meeting structure doesn’t bring about dynamic change
  • How to build on strengths to create a future beyond imagining
  • What is appreciative inquiry (founded 30 years ago by David L. Cooperrider) and why it matters

  • Why men focus on weaknesses instead of strengths
  • How we’re taught to improve through correcting what’s not working instead of focusing on what is working and building on that

  • The 3 key appreciative inquiry questions
  • What questions you can ask yourself to find your strengths

Dad Edge Alliance Q&A: Coming to Terms with Your Own Bulls*t with Gary John Bishop

Dad Edge Alliance Q&A: Coming to Terms with Your Own Bullsh*t with Gary John Bishop

How come we’re not happy when we get what we want? So many of us believe that if we just made more money, if we got that promotion we wanted, or if we lost that last ten pounds we’d be happy. Then sometimes we finally achieve our goals and realize we’re still unfulfilled. This is because we bring ‘us.’ We always have ourselves and our limited beliefs.

Today we have a live Dad Edge Alliance Q&A session with Gary John Bishop. His book How to Unf*ck Yourself just made the NY Times bestseller list. He has been on our show twice before and was a speaker at our Dad Edge Summit.

This episode is in-your-face and explicit. Some of it you may not like hearing, but Gary John Bishop will tell you (in his Shrek-like Scottish accent) how to come to terms with your own bullsh*t so that you can be relentless in executing your goals while also finding the joy in where you are, here and now.

'It’s not about getting there, it’s about loving working it out.' – @GaryJohnBishop #personalgrowth #selfdevelopment #motivation #lifelessons #wisdom Click To Tweet

'If you don’t find yourself on the doorstep of your own bullsh*t, you’re doing it wrong.' – @GaryJohnBishop #selfdiscovery #personalgrowth #men #manhood Click To Tweet

What You’ll Learn

  • His counterintuitive approach to being a human being
  • Why your thoughts are a crappy guide
  • The sanctity of your word: why what you say is so important
  • How your success in life is exclusively tied to you keeping your promises to yourself
  • How to speak, be, and act to become a force of nature
  • What it means when you have crazy people in your life
  • Why a lot of personal growth doesn’t work
  • Why transformation is not possible until you come to terms with your own bullshit (not your wife, your job, or your life).
  • Why you need to be the center of your universe
  • What a mid-life crisis really is midlife
  • Why you should question everything you calmly accept
  • How labeling things perpetuates the battle
  • The fallacy of common sense
  • How to manage your family when you are growing and evolving as a person
  • How to create framework for your kids to question everything and find themselves
  • Why you have to find the joy in your life in where you are instead of where you’re going
  • How to give yourself a break when you screw up
'It’s not the pretending that screws you over as a human being. It’s the pretending that you’re not pretending...' – @GaryJohnBishop #humanity #happiness #authenticity #motivation #wisdom Click To Tweet

How to Unf*ck Yourself

How to Unf*ck Yourself with Gary John Bishop

As men, we like to plan. We like to be able to foresee what’s going to happen so that we can be prepared, but life will inevitably throw curveballs our way. These periods of uncertainty can provoke stress, anxiety, and fear. How can we embrace uncertainty and use as the most powerful opportunity to grow?

Gary John Bishop is one of the world’s elite performance coaches and NY Times Bestselling Author of Unf*ck Yourself. He is here to teach us how to embrace uncertainty, how to take extreme ownership of our lives, and how we can teach our kids to do the same.

'Changing your thinking will NOT change your life.' - @GaryJohnBishop #men #dads #fathers #personaldevelopment Click To Tweet

Gary John Bishop

You might notice from his accent that Gary John Bishop is Scottish. He moved to the US in 1994 and toured as a musician, meeting famous people and his wife who he is still very much in love with to this day.

Gary eventually gave up music and got into construction. He was asked to do a personal development course and refused. It seemed liked foo-foo stuff to him. But Gary ended up taking the course and it blew his mind. He was forced to get uncomfortable and face his life. He came out the other side with life-altering insights.

From then on, Gary was fascinated by the personal development world and became the senior program director for the largest personal development company. He realized that he was wrong about himself. He was not the solid person he thought he was. He started questioning his thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and how they were affecting his decisions in life. He listened to the dialogue he kept with himself. He started to explore it and change it. Now he has his own coaching business, his book, and a series of courses.

'You have so many thoughts a day. 80-90% of those thoughts you had yesterday. You want to change your life, but you’re thinking the same stuff.' @GaryJohnBishop #thoughts #innerdialogue #selftalk #personalgrowth Click To Tweet

What You’ll Learn

  • Why we are wired for certainty
  • Why uncertainty is inevitable no matter how hard we try to avoid it
  • How you can empower yourself by embracing uncertainty
  • How to analyze your thoughts to find weak and limiting inner dialogue
  • How to stop living in the idea of what you think should happen and operate in reality
  • Why there’s a lot of pressure as a dad to have all the answers
  • How to give yourself room for your own humanity
  • Why it’s good to be human in front of your kids
  • How to take responsibility for the way you are
  • How we give away our power by basing our happiness on other peoples’ behavior
  • How to instill ownership in your kids from an early age
  • How to stop the blame game
  • How to be with yourself when you’re at your worst
  • Why men avoid being pressed, but should embrace being stressed
  • How to be in communication with your feelings
  • Why positive psychology doesn’t work for some people
  • Why the language you use with yourself is so important
  • Why consciously and cognitively connecting other people is crucial
'The things that stop you in life are very much in the background of your own thinking.' @GaryJohnBishop #men #dads #fathers #thoughts #selflimitingbeliefs Click To Tweet
