Start Reaching Your Goals with an Accountability Partner

When it comes to committing to our goals, we often let ourselves down. We’ll sleep in instead of getting that workout in. We’ll give in to that junk food or extra beer. We’ll put off our big dreams for another day. No one will know that we didn’t follow through. But if we have to answer to someone else, the whole game changes. Today we talk about how you can start reaching your goals with an accountability partner.

In this episode, you will see the accountability partner dynamic in action in the Dad Edge Alliance. Ninety-six of our members signed up for #75Hard, a 75-day challenge that develops physical and mental strength. We matched everyone up with accountability partners. Today you’ll get to hear about some of the powerful transformations that happened just by having someone to answer to and give support.

self care for dads

Self-Care for Dads

When we become fathers, we have be in charge of caring for our families. We must step up and provide for them, protect them, and lead them. Fatherhood is an opportunity to become our best selves, but we can’t show up if we don’t invest in our physical, mental, and intellectual wellbeing.

Today we have everyday dad and Dad Edge Alliance member Eric Martinez on the show. He is the founder of Be Well Dad and is dedicated to helping men become their best selves, enabling them to give more to their families and lead on a confident and competent level.

Eric’s been with his wife for sixteen years and is the dad of a five-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter. He talks about how he and his wife overcome the most difficult obstacles, how he got out of his dad bod rut by losing 40 pounds, and how he steps off the hamster wheel of busyness to make time for self-care.

“Fatherhood is an opportunity. It’s an opportunity to show up in the best way you can. It’s an opportunity to influence the next generation of human beings.”—Eric Martinez

What You’ll Learn

  • Often spouses think their marriage problems are because of the other person when it’s themselves.
  • As challenges arise you must work as a team with your spouse.
  • There is nothing you can do better on your own.
  • How to make a decision as a family on how you will approach life
  • The family unit is bigger than all problems.
  • How to deal with emotionally sensitive children
  • Validating your kids’ feelings
  • How to support a spouse who suffers from mental illness
  • How CBD helped Eric and his wife mentally and physically
  • What he did to lose 40 pounds

The Disease of Busyness

Are you infected with the disease of busyness?

Many of us run on all cylinders, trying to cross the next item off our to do lists. Our days are full. We commit ourselves to the point of exhaustion. It feels like we’re accomplishing a lot, but weeks, months, years go by and we find ourselves stuck in the same place. Our health, business, and relationships are neglected. We want to move forward, but how can we possibly fit more in?

Busyness is a sneaky disease. In this episode we talk with Dad Edge Alliance member Dan Zehner, host of the Anthem of the Adventurer Podcast. Dan used busyness as a distraction to avoid doing what he needed to do in life. He was overweight, stress out, and disconnected from his family. Then he got real with himself.

Dan tells us about how he confronted his pain, discovered his purpose, and took ownership of his time. He is now living at the peak of his potential and you can too!

“We must stop using the excuse of having kids and a mortgage to hold us back from a life filled with adventure.”—Dan Zehner

What You’ll Learn

  • How Dan transformed his physical fitness over the period of six months
  • Emotional, mental, and physical endurance—when you practice resilience in one area, it applies to all of them.
  • What the disease of busyness looks and feels like
  • Why “hope” is not a strategy.
  • What to do when we plateau in life
  • How to push through resistance
  • Why we must define our true purpose
  • Perseverance produces character. Character produces hope.
  • Why accomplishments do not matter
  • Eliminating the hurry in our lives
  • How to stop being overcommitted
  • A gratitude exercise that will bring priorities into focus
  • The power of mementos and totems
  • Distracting ourselves from pain deprives us of profound moments of joy in life.
  • What to do with our “margin time”
  • Allowing ourselves time to do what we loved to do as kids
  • Addressing the disease of busyness—how is it working for you and how is it making you feel?
  • Make a list of where you’re investing your time and energy. Ask yourself, is it helpful, or are you being unkind to yourself?

Perseverance produces character. Character produces hope.

Getting Started with Intermittent Fasting

Getting Started with Intermittent Fasting

It’s 2020, and we’re all pumped about taking action on our health and fitness goals. Intermittent fasting is getting a huge amount of attention, not just for weight loss, but for anti-aging, disease prevention, and mental sharpness.

Getting started with intermittent fasting is challenging mentally and physically, but in this show you will learn the benefits that make it all worth it.

Today we have Joel Staley from Dads Who Lift on the show. He helps busy parents turn their bodies into fat-burning machines. He tells us what happens to our bodies when we fast, how to break into a fasting routine, and what results to expect.

Intermittent Fasting Benefits

  • Better at preserving muscle than calorie deprivation
  • Gives your digestive system a break
  • Triggers autophagy, the recycling of old cells
  • Increases mental sharpness
  • Puts your body into ketosis to burn fat
  • Regulates hormones
  • Stimulates human growth hormone
