75 hard transformation

A Dad’s 75 Hard Transformation Story

In today’s episode of The Dad Edge, we interview Justin Holland, popularly known as Juice, who completed the 75 Hard challenge with us in The Dad Edge Alliance.

Juice started 75 Hard on November 1st with a starting weight of 344 pounds. He chose November specifically because it’s the toughest time to begin a challenge like this. It’s the holiday season, and Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year were all standing in the way of his success.

Juice thought if he could go through this, he could go through anything. He has now dropped down to 290 pounds!

What You’ll Learn

Juice’s story

Juice is a father to two girls and a boy. He’s a special member of the mastermind because he keeps all the other dads motivated by the progress pictures he posts every week.Even though it wasn’t a necessity to make those pictures public, Juice wanted to make himself more accountable and motivate others to push themselves further. What he learned from the challenge:

  • Drinking a gallon of water every day will reduce your hunger. Sometimes you’re hungry because you’re dehydrated.
  • Eating healthy becomes a lifestyle after you complete the challenge. You’re not forced to do it anymore.
  • You get immense mental clarity and toughness from 75 Hard. The physical transformation is just a bonus.
  • You become much more patient and emotionally resilient.

Talking about patience

Juice talked about an incident where he was disappointed his daughter about something. But rather than blaming or punishing her, he and his wife Jill talked the situation out with her. This helped them build a better relationship and everyone walked away from the conversation happy and satisfied.

Juice’s plans for the future

Juice plans to take a break and start with the next phase of 75 Hard in mid-Feb. The reason he decided to take a break is that he wants to test the skills he has learned in the real world and come back stronger.

healthy habits

Healthy Habits for Marriage, Fatherhood, and Fitness

Lockdown has affected us physically as well as mentally. Our relationships have been challenged like never before. But we have the power to recalibrate with healthy habits that will help our bodies, minds, and connection to our families.

Today we talk to everyday dad and Dad Edge Alliance member, Jordan Kaufman. He talks about the signs that warned him he needed to change, why he committed to an extreme health challenge, and how he will use his newfound resilience to keep making his body, mind, and marriage stronger.

What You’ll Learn

  • Step outside of arguments to keep your cool and solve problems.
  • Train yourself to have more humility and be less defensive.
  • Listen to what your wife is really saying and not to how it’s being delivered.
  • Apply the growth mindset to your marriage. You might not get it today, but you will get it down the road.
  • Approach disagreements with appreciation and curiosity. You don’t have to agree, just understand.
  • You’re in control of your thoughts, responses, and actions, no matter how you feel.
  • Help your kids solve the problem instead of reacting to it.
  • Jordan took charge of his health when he realized he was getting dad boobs.
  • Accountability is the biggest factor in the success of fitness goals and all other goals.
  • Take care of yourself in the between moments. Small habits add up to big results.
  • Use your fitness routine as time with your children.

accountability partner

Start Reaching Your Goals with an Accountability Partner

When it comes to committing to our goals, we often let ourselves down. We’ll sleep in instead of getting that workout in. We’ll give in to that junk food or extra beer. We’ll put off our big dreams for another day. No one will know that we didn’t follow through. But if we have to answer to someone else, the whole game changes. Today we talk about how you can start reaching your goals with an accountability partner.

In this episode, you will see the accountability partner dynamic in action in the Dad Edge Alliance. Ninety-six of our members signed up for #75Hard, a 75-day challenge that develops physical and mental strength. We matched everyone up with accountability partners. Today you’ll get to hear about some of the powerful transformations that happened just by having someone to answer to and give support.

What You’ll Learn

  • Having an Accountability Partner helps you reach your goals and:
    • Strengthens mental toughness
    • Helps you live with more intention
    • Increases self-sufficiency
    • Promotes calm
    • Enhances creative problem-solving
  • You can inspire other men by achieving what they think they can’t.
  • Serving others helps you to take the focus off yourself. Life is bigger.
  • Accountability trains you to show up.
  • It feels rewarding to tell someone you met your goals.
  • Following through with an accountability partner allows your family see your commitment and discipline.
  • You get the tough love you need to push through resistance
  • You will have someone who knows you can do it, even if you think you can’t.
  • 75Hard rules
    • Exercise twice a day for 45 minutes each. One workout must be outdoors.
    • Drink a gallon of water a day.
    • Choose any diet or eating plan and stick with it for 75 days. No cheat meals and NO ALCOHOL.
    • Read a minimum of 10 pages every day of personal development or business book
    • Take one progress photo each day.
